Being a small business myself, I often read blogs to learn how to do things to improve different aspects of my business. This post lists the best small business blogs I’ve come across. These blogs consistently put out great content, are well written and have actionable tips to help grow your business.
Most small business blogs write about a variety of topics but at the core, they focus on one or two topics. In the blog titles below, I mention what kind of content they are best for.
As you know, there are several lists out there which list out tons of blogs. I kept this list short – hope it helps.
Webris – SEO
Webris is an SEO agency. They work with bigger brands but their blog is awesome for small businesses who are learning how to DIY link building and optimize their site for search engines. This post on how to take a new site from 0-15k in traffic will help many of you think about how to develop content for your site. One or two well written pieces of content which target the right keywords can bring you a lot of traffic. Also read this post on link building strategies – this post is as good as reading an entire book on link building. They use the same tactics to market their bigger clients so they are tried and tested.
Buffer Blog – Social Media
Buffer is one of the leading social media scheduling tools out there. If you don’t use a social media tool, check out their free version. This blog helps you learn about how to make social media work for you. Their content is not all small business related (some are pricier strategies like working with influencers) but several of their posts have actionable DIY tips like this one on how to develop content for social media and another on simplifying your instagram workflow. If you read one blog on social media, make it this blog.
Shopify Blog – Ecommerce
If you are using Shopify, you know about this one already. Since Shopify’s customers base is small businesses, they put out in-depth content to help small businesses succeed. They have a wide variety of content across all the major ecommerce functions from starting up to customer service. Some of their recent posts include how to hire an expert to help you grow your business, free productivity tools, some ecommerce copywriting mistakes to avoid and a lot more. This blog is like a library filled with useful small business content.
A Better Lemonade Stand – Ecommerce
Positioned as an ecommerce incubator, this blog focuses on writing content for early stage businesses or those who are thinking about starting a business. They have introductory content for several key areas such as ecommerce platforms, branding, drop shipping and more. It’s a good place to start when you’re setting up your business.
Wordstream blog – PPC Advertising
I’ve learned a lot about PPC advertising from this blog. They have a lot of content how to write ads, adjust bids, find the right keywords, improve CTR’s and conversion.
What are your favorite blogs?
