My name is Ash Moosa and I’m the photographer behind this site.
I spent many years of my career in digital marketing & ecommerce. I’ve worked with major retailers like Gap, Staples, and Bed Bath & Beyond over the years.
In 2011, I started a business selling handmade/boutique jewelry online – I sourced from several designers from trade shows, etc. I quickly found that pohotography was expensive to outsource and difficult to do.
To save on costs, I had to learn how to do product photography, some graphic design to build ads and DIY’ed many other things along the way. The business did well on a small scale but I discontinued it because I was the middleman and my margins were too low.
But by the time I stopped that business, I had invested a lot into learning photography – took courses, bought equipment and learned so much about Photoshop that I started offering photography services – that’s how JewelryShoot began. In 2014, I put up an ad on Craigslist with some samples of my work (from my store) and got my first client.
Since then, I’ve shot thousands of pieces of jewelry and I’ve worked with about 100+ clients. Different types of jewelry require different techniques/props so I’ve learned how to work with a variety of styles.
To keep it simple, I only work with white or transparent backgrounds. A lot of times I get requests for a graduated black to white type background. While I don’t shoot with that type of a background, you could get it done in photoshop.
